The Windsor Police Service is committed to providing inclusive, accessible services to all members of our community.

Video Remote Interpreting (VRI)

Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) allows deaf and hearing people to communicate through a video-based interpreter.

VRI is available at WPS Headquarters in the Main Office and Detention Unit, and the WPS Collision Reporting Centre on Jefferson Blvd. It provides on-demand interpretation for basic reports and general inquiries, and allows officers to provide persons-in-custody with their charter rights.

VRI is not used for any report requiring court attendance (such as a sexual assault or domestic violence). In these cases, an in-person interpreter will be called to assist.

In all cases, the deaf person will be given the option to choose their preferred method of communication.

Telephone Interpretation

Telephone interpretation is available at WPS headquarters in the Emergency 911 Centre, Main Office, Traffic Branch, Detention Unit, and Professional Standards Branch. It is also available at the Collision Reporting Centre on Jefferson Blvd.

Members of the Windsor Police Service can also use telephone interpretation to place calls to non-English-speaking citizens.
