Seven impaired driving arrests over weekend
The Windsor Police Service charged seven people with impaired driving following separate incidents over the weekend.
On August 8, 2026, shortly after 2:30 a.m., officers were at Windsor Regional Hospital’s Metropolitan Campus for an unrelated matter when they observed two people arguing inside a vehicle. Officers spoke with the driver and noticed that his speech was heavily slurred, his eyes were glossy, and his breath smelled of alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to headquarters, where he failed a breath test.
Tyler Eldon Walter, 26, was charged with impaired operation of a vehicle and operation with a blood alcohol concentration at or over 80 mg%.
Approximately three hours later, officers responded to a wellness check in the parking lot of a convenience store in the 1000 block of Lauzon Road. Officers located a vehicle with its engine running while in park. . Officers observed a man asleep in the driver’s seat, with a bottle of alcohol on the passenger seat. The man was arrested and later failed a breath test at Windsor Police headquarters.
Raghav Bajaj, 25, was charged with operation with a blood alcohol concentration at or over 80 mg%.
Shortly before 5 p.m. on August 8, officers were called to the Ambassador Bridge to assist the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) with an arrest. A female driver attempting to enter Canada had difficulty following directions and nearly struck a pole while reversing. When she exited the vehicle, she stumbled and swayed, with bloodshot, glossy eyes and an odour of alcohol on her breath. Open liquor containers were also observed inside the vehicle. The woman was arrested and transported to Windsor Police headquarters, where she failed a breath test.
Natalie Rose Wayne, 36, was charged with impaired operation of a vehicle and operation with a blood alcohol concentration at or over 80 mg%.
Later that evening, at approximately 8:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a man passed out inside a vehicle in a restaurant parking lot in the 5000 block of Legacy Park Drive. When officers spoke with the man, they observed an open container of liquor in the driver’s side door. The man was arrested and later failed a breath test.
Jayce Joseph Cvar, 40, was charged with operation with a blood alcohol concentration at or over 80 mg%.
On August 9, shortly before 2 a.m., CBSA officers at the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel stopped a male driver who showed signs of impairment. Officers observed that the driver appeared disoriented and had a strong odour of alcohol on his breath. He was transported to Windsor Police headquarters, where he failed a breath test.
Tiago Ballteiro, 24, has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operation with a blood alcohol concentration at or over 80 mg%.
Shortly after 2 a.m., CBSA officers at the Gordie Howe Bridge stopped another male driver. Officers observed that the driver had bloodshot eyes, was unsteady on his feet, and had what appeared to be vomit on himself. He was transported to Windsor Police headquarters, where he registered more than twice the legal limit of alcohol.
Darren Shier, 44, of Michigan, has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operation with a blood alcohol concentration at or over 80 mg%.
Shortly before 4 a.m., CBSA officers at the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel stopped a female driver who stated she had taken a wrong turn and entered the tunnel into Canada. During their interaction with her, officers observed signs of impairment, including slurred speech, bloodshot eyes, and unsteadiness on her feet. Officers also noted that she was not wearing shoes, appeared unsure of her location, and had what appeared to be vomit on the driver’s side door. She was transported to Windsor Police headquarters, where she registered over the legal limit of alcohol.
Malayna Leal, 26, of Michigan, has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and operation with a blood alcohol concentration at or over 80 mg%.
