Man charged after waving air rifle outside residence 

The Windsor Police Service has charged a 51-year-old man after he allegedly waved an air rifle in a residential neighbourhood. 

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. on July 27, 2026, officers responded to reports that a man was waving what appeared to be a rifle in the 1700 block of Cadillac Street. Officers learned that the suspect had been screaming, throwing miscellaneous items onto his front lawn, and waving the rifle as children walked nearby. 

Officers quickly arrived on scene and established a perimeter around the residence. Approximately 10 minutes later, the man exited the house and was arrested without incident. A search of the residence resulted in the seizure of an air rifle. 

Although the weapon seized was an air rifle, it closely resembled a real firearm. Because air rifles can be difficult to distinguish from real firearms, police respond as though the weapon is real until proven otherwise. 

Todd Allen Hrycyk, 51, has been charged with carrying a weapon with the intent to threaten public peace.
