Driver charged twice for impaired driving in less than a month

A 34-year-old man has been charged twice in less than a month for impaired driving-related offences.

On July 20, 2026, shortly before 12 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Bruce Avenue and University Avenue West following a report of a driver nodding off at the wheel.

Upon arrival, officers located the male driver. While speaking with him, officers observed signs of impairment and drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. The driver was arrested and transported to police headquarters, where he failed a Drug Recognition Expert evaluation.

Joshua Murphy, 34, has since been charged with:

•    Impaired operation of a motor vehicle by drug

•    Driving while under suspension

Murphy had previously been charged after a similar incident on June 27, 2026, when officers were called to the 800 block of Ouellette Avenue for a report of two unconscious people inside a running vehicle.

Officers located Murphy slumped over the driver’s side window. After observing signs of impairment, they arrested him and transported him to police headquarters, where he failed a Drug Recognition Expert evaluation.
