$200,000 playground fire under investigation 

The Windsor Police Service is investigating a deliberate fire that destroyed a City of Windsor playground and caused approximately $200,000 in damage. 

Shortly after 11 p.m. on July 2, 2026, officers responded to reports of a fire at a municipal park in the 2200 block of Parent Avenue. Windsor Fire and Rescue Services attended the scene and extinguished the blaze. By that time, the playground equipment was fully engulfed in flames and had sustained significant damage.  

Members of the Windsor Police Arson Unit have determined the fire was intentionally set using a petroleum-based accelerant. No injuries were reported. 

Investigators are asking residents and business owners in the immediate area to review their surveillance or dashcam footage between 10 p.m. and 11:30 p.m. on July 2 for evidence that may assist the investigation.
