Suspect with butcher knife arrested after five-hour standoff
The Windsor Police Service has arrested a 26-year-old man after he chased several people with a butcher knife and then barricaded himself inside a residence for five hours.
On June 18, 2026, shortly before 7:30 a.m., officers responded to reports of a person with a weapon in the 300 block of McEwan Avenue. The man, armed with a butcher knife, had reportedly chased several people in the area. No physical injuries were reported.
By the time officers arrived, the suspect had confined himself within his residence. Patrol officers, the Emergency Services Unit, and other specialized response personnel promptly established a perimeter and attempted to resolve the situation peacefully. Officers communicated with the man by phone, but he refused to come out.
During the standoff, the suspect forced entry into a roommate’s bedroom within the residence, causing damage to the door. A number of the roommate’s belongings were also stolen or damaged during the incident.
At approximately 12:30 p.m., the suspect attempted to flee through the rear door of the residence and was arrested following a brief struggle.
The 26-year-old man faces the following charges:
• Assault with a weapon
• Possession of a dangerous weapon
• Break-and-enter with intent to commit an indictable offence
• Mischief under $5,000 (x 2)
• Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
