Four impaired driving arrests over the weekend 

The Windsor Police Service has charged four people with impaired driving following separate incidents over the weekend.  

On June 5, 2026, shortly after 8:30 p.m., officers located a driver unconscious behind the wheel of a vehicle at the intersection of Ouellette Avenue and Giles Boulevard. When attempts to wake the driver failed, an officer broke the window and physically roused the driver awake to ensure their safety.

The driver appeared disoriented, with dilated pupils and slurred speech.

Jason Lee Kennedy, 42, has been charged with impaired operation of a vehicle.

On June 7, at approximately 3:30 a.m., officers responded to a report of a collision in the 400 block of Ouellette Avenue. Through investigation, officers learned that a person driving an e-bike had collided with a parked vehicle. When officers spoke with the driver, they observed signs of impairment. He was arrested and transported to headquarters, where he failed a breath test.

Robert Kenneth Cooper, 56, has been charged with impaired operation of a vehicle and operation with a blood alcohol concentration at or over 80 mg%.

Later that day, shortly after 6 p.m. officers observed a vehicle swerve into oncoming traffic in the 400 block of Simcoe Street in Amherstburg. A traffic stop was initiated, and officers noted the driver showed signs of impairment. He was arrested without incident and subsequently failed a breath test.

Thore Lederer, 63, has been charged with impaired operation of a vehicle and operation with a blood alcohol concentration at or over 80 mg%.

Approximately five hours later, officers located a vehicle parked in an alleyway behind a business in the 1800 block of Tecumseh Road East. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled. A few minutes later, officers located and arrested the suspect in the 1400 block of Lens Avenue. The driver was arrested and later failed a breath test. 

Daniel Joseph Chauvin, 61, has been charged with impaired operation of a vehicle, operation with a blood alcohol concentration at or over 80 mg%, and flight from a peace officer.

The Windsor Police Service reminds drivers that impaired driving puts everyone at risk. If you suspect someone is driving impaired, call 911 immediately.
