SIU invokes mandate after motor vehicle collision

Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has invoked its mandate following a serious collision that occurred after a vehicle fled from a Windsor Police Service officer.

Shortly after 8 a.m. on May 29, 2026, an officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the 3300 block of Walker Road. The vehicle failed to stop and sped away, colliding with another vehicle a short distance away.

Two people were transported to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Walker Road remains closed between Sydney Avenue and Foster Avenue as the investigation continues. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.

In accordance with provincial legislation, the Windsor Police Service notified SIU, which has invoked its mandate and is now investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. As a result, the Windsor Police Service is unable to provide further information.
