Five impaired driving arrests over weekend
The Windsor Police Service charged five people with impaired driving-related offences following separate incidents over the weekend.
On May 22, 2026, shortly before 9 p.m., officers responded to a report of a male passed out inside a vehicle near Central Avenue and Grand Marais Road East. Officers located the driver unconscious behind the wheel and observed signs consistent with drug impairment.
When directed to exit the vehicle, the driver attempted to shift the vehicle into gear and drive away. Officers broke the vehicle windows to safely remove him from the vehicle and place him under arrest without incident. A search of the vehicle located a small quantity of suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia.
Paul Konopaski, 50, was charged with operation while impaired by drug and possession of a schedule I substance.
Approximately an hour later, officers observed a two-vehicle collision on Tecumseh Road West near California Avenue. The female driver of one vehicle displayed multiple signs of impairment, including slurred speech, slow movements, poor balance, nodding off, and an odour of alcohol on her breath. Officers also learned that the driver was prohibited and suspended from driving.
Paige Longmuir, 31, was charged with impaired operation of a vehicle, failure to provide a breath sample, and prohibited driving (x3).
On May 24, shortly before 4 a.m., officers responded to a report of an unresponsive person behind the wheel of a vehicle at the intersection of Riverdale Avenue and Wyandotte Street East. Officers located the vehicle stopped in the middle of the roadway with the engine running and a man seated in the driver’s seat. After waking him, officers observed signs consistent with drug impairment, including lethargic behaviour and difficulty staying awake and focused. During the investigation, officers seized 21.9 grams of suspected fentanyl and 10.2 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine.
David C. Wilson, 47, was charged with impaired operation by drug and possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking (x 2).
Later that day, at approximately 1 p.m., Canada Border Services Agency officers at the Ambassador Bridge saw a vehicle strike a traffic cone and drive over a median separating inspection lanes. The male driver appeared disoriented, had difficulty standing, and was unable to answer questions coherently.
Jake Allen Gallagher, 26, was charged with operation while impaired by drug.
At 8:30 p.m. that evening, officers responded to a two-vehicle collision near Aylmer Avenue and Wyandotte Street East. Upon arrival, officers spoke with the female driver and immediately detected signs of impairment, including slurred speech and a strong odour of alcohol on her breath.
Angela Tonkin, 61, was charged with impaired operation of a vehicle and operation with a blood alcohol concentration at or over 80 mg%.
