Pedestrian dies after vehicle collision

The Windsor Police Service is investigating after a pedestrian died following a motor vehicle collision.

On May 19, 2026, shortly after 11 p.m., officers responded to a report of a vehicle collision in the 2800 block of Howard Avenue. Upon arrival, they located an unresponsive man in the roadway receiving medical treatment from Essex-Windsor EMS and Windsor Fire & Rescue Services personnel.

A preliminary investigation determined the man was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk and was struck by a vehicle travelling southbound on Howard Avenue. The 58-year-old man was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The driver remained at the scene.

Howard Avenue was closed between Edinborough Street and Grand Marais Road East for several hours as members of the Windsor Police Service Traffic Reconstruction Unit conducted their investigation.
