Police and bank employee thwart fraud in progress
The Windsor Police Service has arrested a 34-year-old man after a bank employee reported suspicious activity linked to identity fraud.
Shortly before 12 p.m. on May 11, 2026, officers responded to a financial institution in the 2600 block of Tecumseh Road East after an employee reported an individual attempting to use stolen identification.
Investigators determined the suspect had presented a stolen driver’s licence to try to fraudulently obtain funds. Bank staff contacted police and officers quickly arrived on scene and arrested the suspect as he attempted to flee.
Incident to the arrest, officers located and seized several items connected to the investigation, including stolen ID cards, debit cards, and credit cards.
Curtis Michael Dylan James Sharpe, 34, is charged with:
· Fraud under $5,000
· Personation of another with intent to gain advantage
· Possession of identity information for a fraudulent purpose (x 2)
· Possession of identity documents belonging to another person (x 2)
· Possession of a forged document with intent to commit an offence (x 2)
· Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 (x 2)
· Failure to comply with a probation order (x 2)
