Case #: 26-30375

Via Italia shooting suspect arrested for second bail breach

The Windsor Police Service has arrested a 24-year-old man, previously charged in connection with a shooting in the city’s Via Italia neighbourhood, for violating his bail conditions for a second time.

Heydar Alanuz was originally charged in May 2024 following an incident in the 700 block of Erie Street. At that time, officers responded to reports of gunfire after a verbal altercation between two men on foot and occupants of a silver Ford Escape. It is alleged that Alanuz discharged a firearm at the vehicle before fleeing on foot.

Investigators quickly identified Alanuz as the suspect. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was apprehended several days later while attempting to board an international flight at Toronto Pearson International Airport.

Alanuz was charged with multiple offences, including discharging a firearm, possession of a restricted firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, and failure to comply with a release order.

In February 2025, he was granted bail with multiple conditions. He was subsequently arrested in October 2025 for breaching those conditions.

In February 2026, Alanuz was again granted bail, with conditions that included GPS monitoring and a requirement to reside with his surety at a LaSalle address.

On March 23, 2026, members of the Bail Compliance Unit conducted a routine compliance check and determined that Alanuz had breached the terms of his release. With the assistance of LaSalle Police he was arrested and is now facing an additional charge of failure to comply with a release order.

His surety, 29-year-old Huseyn Alanuz, who was present at the time, was also arrested and charged with facilitating a breach of a release order.

The Bail Compliance Unit is a partnership between the Windsor Police Service and LaSalle Police Service, launched in March 2024. The unit supervises high-risk individuals placed under house arrest, curfew, or electronic monitoring and ensures that those who violate their judicial release orders are held accountable. The Offender Management Unit is funded through a grant from the Government of Ontario as part of the province’s strategy to strengthen Ontario’s bail system.

Anyone with information regarding individuals who are not complying with their release conditions is asked to contact the Windsor Police Service at 519-255-6700. To report anonymously, please contact Windsor & Essex County Crime Stoppers at 519-258-8477 (TIPS) or visit www.catchcrooks.com.
