IPV offender arrested one hour after release

The Windsor Police Service has arrested a 27-year-old man for breaching a probation order just one hour after his release from custody in connection with an intimate partner violence investigation.

Earlier this month, the man was convicted of assault following an incident in which a woman sustained serious physical injuries. On February 23, he was released from the South West Detention Centre under a probation order that prohibited him from coming within 100 metres of any place the victim lived, worked, or attended school.

The Windsor Police Special Victims Unit learned of his release in advance and had reason to believe he would attend the victim’s residence. Officers ensured the victim was moved to a safe location, then stationed themselves outside her residence.

Just one hour after leaving custody, officers observed the suspect exiting a taxi and walking directly to the rear door of the victim’s home. He was immediately arrested without incident.

The 27-year-old man has been charged with breach of a probation order. His name is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.

The Windsor Police Service remains committed to supporting victims of intimate partner violence. Community resources are available for anyone in need:
