Police K9 apprehends break-in suspect  

The Windsor Police Service arrested a 26-year-old man after a K9 officer interrupted a break-and-enter in progress in the city’s west end.

Shortly before 2 a.m. on January 6, 2026, officers responded to a report of a break-in at a former elementary school in the 1500 block of Wyandotte Street West. Officers learned a male suspect had used a chainsaw to break into the building and was inside attempting to steal materials.

Officers quickly established a perimeter around the property. K9 officer Rolex and his handler were deployed into the building, where the suspect was located and taken into custody without incident.

A search incident to arrest resulted in the seizure of 10.5 grams of suspected crystal meth and 0.7 grams of suspected fentanyl.

Christopher Tyler Gauthier, has been charged with the following:

•              Break-and-enter a place other than a dwelling

•              Possession of break-in instruments

•              Unlawful possession of a schedule I substance (x2)
