Police charge motorist with impaired driving

The Windsor Police Service has arrested a 35-year-old man for impaired driving and failing to provide a breath sample.

Shortly before 7 p.m. on December 10, 2025, officers on routine patrol observed a vehicle in the area of Tecumseh Rd. E. and Lincoln Rd. veering in and out of its lane and nearly striking another vehicle. Officers initiated a traffic stop and observed signs of impairment in the driver, including a strong odour of an alcoholic beverage.

As a result of the investigation, Mitchell Costa-Sousa has been charged with the following:

· Operation of a motor vehicle while impaired

· Refusal to comply with a breath demand

· Using a plate not authorized for vehicle

· Operating a motor vehicle without insurance

· Failing to surrender a driver’s licence

As we head into the holiday season, the Windsor Police Service urges everyone to make responsible choices on the road. If you plan to drink, plan a safe way home. Impaired driving puts lives at risk; don’t let one decision change everything.

From now until January 1, 2026, you can expect to see an increased police presence throughout Windsor and Amherstburg as we work to keep our streets safe during the busy holiday season. These efforts are part of the #FestiveRide campaign, an annual province-wide enforcement and awareness initiative aimed at taking impaired drivers off the road.
