Traffic stop leads to firearm charges

The Windsor Police Service has arrested a 22-year-old man after a loaded handgun was discovered during a routine traffic stop.

On November 20, 2025, at approximately 2:15 a.m., a Windsor Police officer conducted a traffic stop near Aylmer Avenue and Riverside Drive East after observing a vehicle travelling at high speed without rear lights. During the stop, the officer learned the driver’s license was suspended.

A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a loaded handgun beneath the driver’s seat, containing three live cartridges and two spent casings. Officers also seized additional ammunition, including three 32-calibre rimfire cartridges and two spent 32-calibre cartridges.

The driver, identified as Matteo Piero Moneglia, was arrested without incident. He has been charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace and transportation of a firearm in contravention of regulations.

The Windsor Police Service reminds the public that firearms and ammunition in vehicles are a serious safety risk. Even small-calibre guns can cause serious injury or death, and their presence increases the potential for violence, putting both the public and officers at risk.
