Correctional officer charged with sexual assault

The Windsor Police Service has charged a correctional officer in connection with the alleged sexual assault of an inmate at a local detention centre.

Earlier this month, the Windsor Police Major Crimes Unit launched an investigation after receiving information that a female inmate had been sexually assaulted at the facility. The alleged offences are reported to have occurred between May and November 2025, while the officer was assigned to supervise female inmates.

Following a detailed investigation, Christopher Rylett, 47, has been charged with sexual assault and breach of public trust (x3).

To protect the identity of the victim and preserve the integrity of the ongoing investigation, no further information will be released at this time.

Investigators believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward. Anyone who believes they may have been sexually assaulted or victimized is urged to contact the Major Crimes Unit at 519-255-6700, ext. 4830.

Sexual assault is defined as any non-consensual touching of a sexual nature that violates the sexual integrity of an individual. This can include a wide range of behaviours, from unwanted sexual contact to assault involving penetration.
