Quick police response leads to arrest of knife-wielding suspect  

A rapid response by the Windsor Police Service led to the arrest of a man armed with a knife in a west-end parking lot.  

Shortly before 11:30 p.m. on October 14, 2025, officers responded to a report of a man brandishing a knife in the area of University Avenue West and Caron Avenue. A complainant reported witnessing a confrontation between two men, during which one of them produced a knife and began chasing the complainant. The complainant fled to a safe location and called police.  

Officers quickly located the suspect near the intersection of University Ave. W. and Bruce Ave. Using de-escalation techniques, they safely brought the situation under control and arrested the suspect without injury to anyone involved.

John Albert Woods, 34, is charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Possession of a dangerous weapon
  • Failure to comply with a release order
  • Failure to comply with an undertaking
